Divisions
Command
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department. Responsibilities include staff management, education, training, budget preparation, logistics, and planning. The Command staff coordinates and supervises the Divisions below. Members of the Command staff include the Chief, Deputy Chiefs and a Logistics Officer. The Command Staff respond to major calls when needed and are on call 24 hours a day.
Operations Division
Areas of responsibility include:
- Emergency Medical Response
- Fire Suppression
- HazMat Response
- Rescue – Extrication
- Special Operations
The members of the Operations Division work 24 hours on duty, then 48 hours off duty. If you see a fire apparatus, you see operations personnel.
Public Education Division
This division is responsible for the promotion of Life Safety Education to children and the elderly. The Saraland Fire Rescue Department has a comprehensive approach to Life Safety Education. We have personnel dedicated to educating our public about not only fire safety, but fall prevention for the elderly, hurricane preparation, and home safety inspections.
We have a mobile “smokehouse” that we take directly to children in order to teach them what to do if they are ever in a fire. This unit also allows us to teach children how to dial 911, kitchen safety and severe weather awareness. This program, started in 2002, would not have been possible without a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This grant allowed us to purchase the education trailer and a tow vehicle along with all of the needed materials to provide this service to the public. Fire Inspection Division
The Fire Inspector oversees the Fire Inspection Division. Responsible for the enforcement of fire codes, ordinances and planning.
