Woman’s Club

The Saraland Woman’s Club, located at 216 Highway 43, is available for rent to the public. It can be reserved for the house or just the grounds; from four hours use to all day. Facilities include a kitchen, restrooms, large meeting room, and grounds. Tables and folding chairs are included. Past events include yard sales, bridal or baby showers, business meetings, luncheons, and currently, karate classes. The Woman’s Club of Saraland, Inc. was organized in November of 1949, and in December of that year joined the Alabama Federation of Woman’s Clubs (AFWC) and the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs (GFWC). The GFWC is an international woman’s organization dedicated to service not only in their own communities, but throughout the world.

The object of the club is to unify the women of Saraland in order to promote Citizenship, better American Homes, Arts, Education, Public Welfare, sound Legislation and in general, to make the community a better place to live. The club has been recognized both on the state level and nationally for the quality and uniqueness of their programs and projects.

The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month from September until May at their Clubhouse. Past projects have included

  • starting the library in Saraland,
  • providing books for our veterans and our schools,
  • providing monetary donations and supplies to Operation Smile for cleft lip and palate operations for children both here and abroad,
  • providing dolls that were requested by UAB Children’s hospital for their surgical patients,
  • initiating the first clean-up campaign in Saraland, and
  • providing scholarships to our children.
